Berlin: Micro hub for cycle logistics opens in Tempelhof-Schöneberg

Anyone who aims to shift urban logistics on a larger scale to cargo bikes needs micro hubs close to the city. On October 1st, a new micro-hub was inaugurated in the Berlin district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg.

For years, the network Fahrradfreundliches Tempelhof-Schöneberg has been advocating for safer cycle paths on the Tempelhofer Damm in Berlin. Delivery traffic for the numerous shops has always been a topic of dispute.  For this reason, the network demanded from the very beginning that "new delivery concepts for the retail sector should be tested".

In 2017, the District Assembly (BVV) adopted a residents' motion initiated by the network. While safe cycle paths are still missing on the Tempelhofer Damm, the "Micro-Hub am Te-Damm" was inaugurated on October 1st- three years after the BVV resolution was adopted.

From here, the cycle logistics companies Velogista, VeloCARRIER and Fairsenden deliver to shops and private households by cargo bike.

The cooperative micro-hub builds on the model project KOMODO in Berlin Prenzlauer-Berg, which became widely known throughout Germany and came to an end in the spring of this year. During the opening ceremony, more plans by other districts and the Senate to expand the network of micro-hubs for cycle logistics in Berlin were revealed.
