The Gambalunga Library in Rimini, Italy is saddling up. Starting on 06 May 2021, library books will be delivered to local primary schools by cargo bike as part of the new Books on Cargo Bikes initiative.

Books on Cargo Bikes, a joint undertaking by the Municipality of Rimini and Bikepark, delivers books by cargo bikes from the Gambalunga Library to primary schools. The first school to participate in this project is “Carla Ronci”, a primary school in Torre Pedrera. By September 2021, the Municpality of Rimini will roll out the Books on Cargo Bikes initiative to all schools in Rimini.

The initiative aims to introduce children to green transport options from an early age.

“Promoting the use of cargo bikes for every day trips and transporting goods is one of the strategic actions included in Rimini’s SUMP,”

says Roberta Frisoni, Councillor for Mobility.

“Involving schools through this initiative is, I believe, a significant step towards spreading a new mobility culture, especially among the younger generations.”

Along with the books, children will also receive information on cargo bikes and brochures advertising the possibility to rent a cargo bike for free for up to 15 days. Three different types of e-cargo bikes can be rented at Bikepark: a cargo bike with wheelchair for people with reduced mobility, a cargo bike for transporting goods and a cargo bike for transporting children with a children’s seat and a rain cover.

The Municipality of Rimini is a partner of the City Changer Cargo Bike (CCCB) Project. The cargo bikes used for this initiative were funded with the support of CCCB
